Sustaining Excellence in Bioethics Through Endowed Faculty Positions

The Berman Institute is fortunate to have seven faculty holding endowed professorships, as well as an endowed directorship. Endowed professorships help attract and retain outstanding scholars, publicly endorsing and honoring the achievements of faculty and advancing the Institute’s expertise in particular areas of research.

In Fall 2026, the Berman Institute will install the inaugural holder of the Ruth R. Faden Professorship of Education in Bioethics. This endowed professorship, established through the generosity of the Institute’s Advisory Board Chair Alexander Levi and his wife, Vicki Gold Levi, will add a proven leader in bioethics education to the faculty.

Philip Franklin Wagley Chair in Biomedical Ethics

Established in 1995 by the Johns Hopkins Medical Institutions, Harvey M. Meyerhoff, and family and friends in honor of Dr. Philip Franklin Wagley

Robert Henry Levi and Ryda Hecht Levi Professorship in Bioethics and Public Policy

Established in 2000 by the Levi family in memory of Robert H. Levi and in honor of Ryda H. Levi

Anne and George L. Bunting Professorship in Clinical Ethics

Established in 2012 by the Bunting family

Bloomberg Distinguished Professorship of Philosophy and Bioethics

Established in 2019 by Michael R. Bloomberg

A search is currently underway to identify the inaugural holder of the Ruth R. Faden Professorship of Education in Bioethics. Expected to be filled for the 2026-27 academic year, this endowed professorship has been established through the generosity of the Institute’s Advisory Board Chair Alexander Levi and his wife, Vicki Gold Levi.
