Educational Offerings

In Fall 2025, for the first time,  the iDeas Lab is offering an academic course, “Bioethics, New Narratives and Storytelling,” through the Bloomberg School of Public Health.

Why Take This Course?

Are you curious about how to tell stories at the heart of science, health, medicine and ethics? What are the different ways this can be done? How can you bring creativity into bioethics? Do you want to think about how to reach new audiences? How can you include personal testimonies in your ethics work?

Course Description

Introduces students to different forms of storytelling. Explores the use of narrative structure, editing, sound and testimony in telling stories about ethics. Provides students with tools to critically consider how different techniques impact on the way these stories are received by audiences.

Learning Objectives

Upon successfully completing this course, students will be able to:

  1. Apply the techniques of storytelling to the planning of their own bioethics’ media project
  2. Differentiate between different relationships with ‘truth’ in approaches to storytelling and ethics
  3. Articulate and critique ways in which bioethics has featured in popular media
