August 9, 2023

The Johns Hopkins University Division of General Internal Medicine (GIM) invites applications for the 18th annual national competition for Housestaff GIM Research Awards. Six awards are offered, each named for an internationally regarded mentor and researcher at Johns Hopkins with a faculty appointment in the Division of General Internal Medicine, including the Jeremy Sugarman Award recognizing achievement in bioethics.

The awards were established to stimulate interest in academic GIM and recognize outstanding house officers who have the potential to become leaders in GIM-related research. In addition to bioethics, awards are offered in:

  • Medical education
  • Addiction research
  • Clinical care and research in HIV
  • Health services and outcomes research
  • Behavioral medicine and health disparities

Each award carries a $500 prize plus travel expenses. Awardees will attend a dinner with GIM faculty on Thursday, December 14, 2023, then present winning abstracts during a special GIM grand rounds held on Friday, December 15, 2023.

The application deadline is September 11, 2023. Enter the competition by submitting an application (including a statement of interest in academic GIM and an abstract summarizing research) and two letters of recommendation. NOTE: These awards are intended for candidates interested in a career in academic general internal medicine.
