Bioethics and New Narratives Award

The iDeas Lab is launching a collaboration with Mediamorfosis, a Latin American New Media festival that highlights the newest developments in virtual, augmented, and mixed reality, spatial computing, uses and impacts of artificial intelligence, and new digital platforms. Joseph Ali, JD, Associate Director for Global Programs at the Berman Institute of Bioethics, and Associate Professor of International Health, is lending his expertise in global and digital health ethics to this project and joining in an advisory role.

As part of the iDeas Lab’s mission to foster equity and diversity in bioethics and uplift innovative creators around the world, the iDeas Lab is offering two Latin American media projects a grant of $5,000 each to support their creative work in XR production and storytelling. The purpose of this grant is to offer recipients the opportunity to expand upon their already established new media practice to encourage discussion on bioethical issues in the Latin America region, promote outstanding Latin American creators, and establish a medium-term collaborative link between the iDeas Lab and Mediamorfosis.

Selected applicants will be invited to pitch their projects at the next Mediamorfosis conference in Valparaíso, Chile in October 2024. Two projects from the pitch will be offered a grant, alongside mentorship in narrative storytelling and bioethics over a six month period, towards public presentation of the final product.
