Godwin Pancras Kalugira, is a Fogarty African Bioethics Post-Doctoral Fellow from Tanzania. He holds a PhD in Health Sciences (Bioethics) from the Muhimbili University of Health and Allied Sciences (MUHAS) in Tanzania. He also holds a Master of Bioethics (MBE) from the same university. Godwin is currently a lecturer and head of the Department of Bioethics and Health Professionalism at MUHAS. His core obligations include overseeing the day-to-day operations of the department, teaching and supervision of postgraduate and undergraduate students, doing research and undertaking consultancy services in bioethics related areas. During the fellowship, Godwin will pursue a leadership project titled “Improving capacity for research benefits negotiation through community engagement in Africa (IRBCA)”. The project’s goal is to develop a training program for community advisory board (CAB) members and infectious disease researchers to strengthen their capacity in research benefit negotiations in Africa settings. In addition, he has interest in international research ethics, environmental ethics and studies employing qualitative methods to address perplexing bioethics issues in developing countries.
