Emily Peugh is a doctoral student in Bioethics and Health Policy in the Department of Health Policy and Management. As a 2025 Bloomberg SPH Health Equity Scholar, her research focuses on advancing and strengthening ethical commitments made to American Indian and Alaska Native (AI/AN) communities in health care, research, and policy. Emily (Karuk) grounds her work in respect for Tribal sovereignty and Indigenous Knowledges.
Before coming to Johns Hopkins, she was a postbaccalaureate fellow in the Department of Bioethics at the National Institutes of Health. Here, she worked on projects related to the use of ancestry information in genetic counseling practice, moral distress and related concepts in the context of the Indian Health Service, and best practices for the ethical conduct of public health research in collaboration with AI/AN communities. Emily received her BS in Health Science with an emphasis in Community Health Education and a minor in Health Humanities from California State University, Long Beach.
